Coding Styles

The three basic coding styles

There are three coding styles in CAT:

  1. Mutually exclusive pre-defined codes
  2. Non-mutually exclusive pre-defined codes
  3. User defined coding

Mutually exclusive pre-defined codes

In this style, coders must select only one of the available codes, which appear as buttons:

Non-mutually exclusive pre-defined codes

In this style, coders can select one or more of the available codes, which appear as check boxes:

User defined coding

In this style, coders can create their own codes by typing the labels in the “User Defined Code” field as they review the data. To code an item with more than one label, separate the labels using the pipe "|" as a delimiter.
